Jennifer Burke Chapter 11

3 Ideas or Learnings
  • Teachers were already expected to be accountable for multiple concepts; moreover, today educators are supposed to have the knowledge and skills to teach a myriad of technological content while guiding students to learn in a meaningful manner.
  • I enjoy the idea of utilizing computer technology to teach lessons. PowerPoint is an ideal way to teach a lesson in an engaging and participatory manner.
  • Learners are motivated by curiosity. Furthermore, virtually all students are curious about technology.
2 New Ideas for Integrating
  • One new ideas is to teach a lesson on word families using PowerPoint. Start with introduction and reminder of word family concept. Include pictures of each word as you bring up each individually.
  • Embed technology into all subject areas. For example, computer games for math and reading, typing for writing, internet sites for science and social studies. Also, I really like the idea of having technology stations.
1 Concern
  • A concern that came up after reading this chapter is being able to actually teach students in a manner that will translate to real-life applications.

  1. Jennifer,
As teachers this is something I think we do everyday without realizing it. I know that teaching to real life applications is essential. Students grasp the concepts being taught so much better. Relating the concept being taught to something that is important to each student will help them have more of a desire to learn. I have noticed a difference in teaching the concept so students can link it to s story that will help them make the concept clear.
